Yes, it's that time of year again. Time for hanging our stockings by the chimney with care. Time for baking Christmas goodies. Time to pause and reflect on the wonder of this season, and the blessings of our families. Time to dress those families up in coordinated clothing and force them to smile and sit still for extended periods of time while we attempt to capture on film what we seldom capture in real life: children who are simultaneously clean, well-groomed, sitting unnaturally close together, smiling blissfully, keeping their hands to themselves.
I do this every year, and every year I have this vision in my head of a laughing, perfectly lit, professional quality, spontaneous moment of love and joy caught on film. What I get instead are offerings like these:
Really? Can't at least one of you look at the camera? And what exactly are you looking at?
Another favorite...
Hey, now that's just uncalled for. Nothing says 'Merry Christmas' like an blurred-but-potentially-obscene hand gesture on your Christmas card.
Needless to say, it went quickly downhill from there...
Merry Christmas...Blehhhhh.

Oh, this is so true for ME TOO! I have pages of pictures taken just for the Christmas card. Last year I broke down and had a professional take it. Not this year, though! I love the pictures of your kids - cutie pies!
ReplyDeleteHey, I posted about this too today. Don't you always wish you could cut and paste the different pictures together. Your kids are so stinkin cute, I don't think it matters what they are looking at.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is enchanting, though!
ReplyDeleteHahaha! That's funny. My hubby always gets so frustrated with me trying to get the perfect pic of the boys. I think the boys are more patient than he is. I am gonna start the pic process in a couple of days. Good luck to us both!
ReplyDeletep.s.- your kids are beautiful!
At least your kids are actually touching each other...Will tries to avoid Natalie, contorting himself away from her. It does not look good in photos, although I guess it expresses his feelings pretty well.
ReplyDeleteyup. That's why i had ours taken over the summer. Well, that and the bonus of standing next to the river that is our namesake in Wales. You don't get to do that very often. At least, we don't.
ReplyDeleteHow funny!! I guess, though, that that's the beauty of digital photography...you can take as many pictures as it takes!!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love that first picture. Even though none of them are looking at the camera I think it's great.
i have to agree with beck--that first picture is adorable! (and my son isn't looking at our camera in our picture either!)
ReplyDeleteBut they're so adorable!!! (My first time her...hello!) Loved the blog about the birthday party too. The advantage of being the Grandmother is that I get invite to the party, but don't have to either make the fairy wings -- or clean up!! Definitely a lovely stage of life.
