Goodbye, My Love.

My dear,

We've always had a wonderful relationship, you and me. You've been there for me through all of the fun times over the last four years. You were there for the birth of my last baby.
You've attended every birthday party, every Christmas morning, every holiday, outing, and memorable event.
You even went on vacations with me. You were by my side when I hiked up mountains. You got heavy toward the end, but I loved you anyway. I just wanted to see the pictures you would give to me. You didn't disappoint.
You made me look like a tourist, and I didn't even care. You've been my most prized possession. I forgave you when your batteries died on Christmas Eve. I hope you have forgiven me for dropping you on the street in Philadelphia when I climbed out of a horse carriage. Overall, I'd say we've been good together. There's only one problem between you and me. The film. It's just not working for me any more. I need something better. I need my readers to see things as they happen, not two weeks later. I need clarity and megapixels. I hope you understand.

That's why I've ordered something new. Please understand this isn't meant to hurt you. Yes, I will be taking your lens to use for the new camera, but I hope you won't take it personally. I think it would be best if you were gone when the new one arrives. I think you're going to go live up in the closet now, especially since I can't get very much money for you on Craigslist. Maybe someday I will take you back out again, to show the kids how things worked in the olden days.

Until then, thanks for the memories.

Love,
Chrissy

  1. Your pictures are already gorgeous! I can't wait to see what is to come.

Can I ask what kind you got? I want an SLR camera so badly it's a sin. Lusting and coveting like crazy. Dying to be unfaithful to my old point and shoot.

    Have fun!

  2. Oh I love it! It's exactly how I feel about my Canon AE1 and about my new digital. My digital isn't the kind I can interchange the lenses and I do intend to keep the old one. I love the way you wrote this up. It had me guessing who you were talking about for awhile. Creative and fun to read.

  3. Oooh, new camera! I can't wait to hear/see what you're getting! I am with Joy. I want an SLR badly as well. My inability to get my current Point and Shoot to focus reliably is driving me insane!

  4. Ooooh, what did you get? Welcome to the digital age. Now next time you go to Big Bend you can take 500 pictures like me! (Just make sure you back them up somewhere in case your computer crashes or threatens to.)

  6. Joy/Wendy/Stacie,
I ordered a Canon Rebel Xti, mainly because I figured out I could use the lens from my old camera and buy the body only (cheaper!), but RIGHT after I posted this, I got an e-mail saying it was on back order for 2-3 weeks. Boo hoo. I may have to make up with my old camera now.

I've been saving for this thing forever. What does it say about me that I have a couch with holes in it, yet I am saving for months for a new camera. Priorities.

  7. When I got my digital SLR last November it was amazing. I take too many pictures, but it's so much fun! :)

    Hope you get it soon..

  8. Is it weird that I am all emotional about that? Probably. I get strangely attached to things sometimes. Especially the way you wrote this post.
But, yeah for the new camera!!!
