Campy

I would just like to take this opportunity to complain that my daughter is STILL in school and has another week left at that. Isn't that inhumane?

Summer plans are filling up around here; we have swim lessons, our annual two-week "Tour de la South" (wherein we visit each and every relative that will house us for as long as they are willing to do so), and then we have our various and sundry VBS and Art camps sprinkled in after that.

So that gets us up to the first of August. And then there's nothing. Not one thing. Just me and three kids and 105 degree heat, day after day. Let me just warn the local Chick-Fil-A right now that we will most likely be loitering at their playground, sucking up their free super-cold air conditioning for the entire month. Get ready.

This weekend, Greg and I will be taking the kids camping, and I would like to state for the record right now that we have waited too late in the year for this and it is going to be hot and sweaty, but thankfully we will be camping next to a lake, so there will be plenty of swimming and fishing and things like that to distract us. I haven't broken the news to the kids yet that we have no intention of building a campfire because it is too stinkin hot, but that they will be roasting marshmallows over a propane stove.

And while we're on the subject of rambling, I would also like to inform the internet that I have purchased a bikini. I have no idea why I have done this, as my belly hasn't seen the light of day since, oh, 15 years and 3 children ago.

When I was 16, back when I weighed 120 pounds, I begged my mom to buy me a lovely neon pink and orange one, and then I was too embarrassed to wear it without a t-shirt over it. Looking back now, I think I looked great and I cannot believe I wasn't happy with my body. So I figured since I'll be 33 in a few weeks, and I am roughly 20 pounds heavier than I used to be, I'll be looking back on this age when I'm 65 and wonder why I didn't just love the way that I looked and wear that bikini everywhere. Like the lady in the weight loss commercial who wears her bikini and heels to the grocery store. Except I won't do that. I'll probably just wear it to the kiddie pool in my own back yard. Maybe I will add some heels just for effect.

  1. Have fun camping! Even if it is nice and toasty.

We're cheating. We've got a condo near the beach for this weekend. :-x But we're going to the coast to visit a friend and it just seems strange to go camping near a friend's house. Though I'm sure she'd have let us set up in her back yard. Hmm...that might have worked well...

Anyways, have fun camping and I can't wait to see you in ONE MORE MONTH! :-D

And sport that bikini proudly. You're still beautiful!

  2. Girl, you sport that bikini. Make Greg take a picture of you when you have the heels on, :). Camping...ah the sweat, the mosquitos, the sleepness nights. Let me move on before i am overwhelmed with tears...Where exactly do you tour for 2 weeks? I'm assuming close to home b/c it takes forever to drive from Texas and you would have spent most of your vacation on the road? I love to read your blogs!

  3. Have fun camping! You should wear your bikini and heels to the lake.

Y'all are welcome up here if you can fit it into your schedule and are willing to drive that little bit extra distance. Although we'll be out of town for part of your "Tour de la South". The kids and I are planning on crashing your camping trip with Mama & Daddy when we get back, so I guess I'll see you then!

  4. Exactly! I read a book "Open House" that said the same thing. A woman (about 40 years old) was taking to a woman (about 70 years old) about a girl (about 20 years old) and how she envied her young body. The 70 yr old said she felt the same way about the 40 year old. When are we ever happy with ourselves? Way to live in the moment! Enjoy what you have while you have it!

The public schools let out on June 12th here because of all the extra snow days we had this year. Can you believe it? Ugh.

  6. I don't do camping, but Josh and Nathan love it. I wonder if they camp in the same area you are going, since we're in the same state.

Our summer slows down about mid-July...so you've got more than we do! We'll be in my mom's pool daily, I think.

  7. When I was 16, I weighed 85 pounds and looked EXACTLY like warmed over death. Of course, I'm not wearing a bikini now, either.

  8. ah... i look back on my prekid body in the same way. I should have flaunted that bikini worthy belly before it drooped and was covered with stretch marks.

hope camping was fun, and you managed to get in at least one campfire!
