I heart U2.

Greg and I went on a date tonight with some friends to see 'U2 in 3D' at our local IMax theater. You may or may not be shocked to hear, like my husband was, that this was the first IMax movie I've ever seen.

Unless you count the Chevy Show at Six Flags over Georgia. Because I've seen that 8 jillion times. There's this roller coaster that goes up and down, and then this baby carriage that rolls down some hills and nearly gets hit by twelve cars. Thrilling stuff.

But this, no this was much MUCH bigger, and better. We put on these groovy 3D glasses and pretty much watched an entire U2 concert nose-to-nose with Bono. I could see the crows' feet underneath his glasses, y'all. It was awesome. It was like sitting in the front row, but without the throngs of sweaty, screaming people around me. Very very cool.

I had forgotten what a huge U2 fan I was back in the day. And by 'the day', I mean the late 80's and early 90's. I pretty much wore out my Joshua Tree cassette tape, and my sister and I used to sing 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' at the top of our lungs on the way to school every morning.

Which reminds me, I totally need to get all those albums on CD, because I had a little too much fun singing along with that movie. I'm sure the people around me appreciated that, as well as the waving cell phone. You can't take me anywhere.

So now I'm shopping Amazon to update my outdated cassette tape collection with some thoroughly modern CD's. I'm moving right up into the late 20th century now. Anyway, I'm up for suggestions; what is your favorite U2 song/album?

  1. Achtung Baby - it was released right before I graduated. I still have the CD. There is a song that has the line "a woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle". I can't remeber the name of it, but I love that one.

  2. I love U2 also and really have enjoyed their newer albums as well.

Beautiful Day has to be one of my all time favorite songs and it is on one of my favorite CD's EVER - All That you Can't Leave Behind.

They also just released a new kind of greatest hits with a couple new tracks on it. It is called U218.

and they have 2 others greatest hits albums. I have the one with all the early stuff on it and like it a lot. Have fun shopping!

I LOVE U2 also. I need to go see that movie. I am glad to hear it is so cool. We just saw Hannah Montana in 3D and I was excited, so I can't even imagine how over the top I will be for Bono!

  3. Yeah, all my U2 tapes are too worn out, too. I have Rattle and Hum and Achtung Baby on CD. I love the Joshua Tree album...and I need to replace my Live at Red Rocks tape. I still remember going to their zootv conert in Birmingham with Tracee...we belted out the songs, too. Public Enemy and Big Audio Dynamite opened for them - what a combination!

  4. Oh lawd I loved U2 back in the day. I remember my mom made me return one of the albums back to KMart because she thought it wasn't appropriate for a 13 year old. I was mortified. When I think back on it, I think she was off her rocker. She had no clue what was ahead in inappropriate music. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it.

For what its worth, I have not been to Imax either. I am too skeered - I hear you can get sick watching. Otherwise I would have been all over the Harry Potter movie.

  8. Now I'm going to have to go see this movie. My hubby has a serious crush on Bono and we both love U2. We have a the book U2 by U2 and also a biography on Bono. They are both fabulous!

  9. OMG! How can anyone not be so in love with U2? Wendy is so fabulous to remember the opening acts for their show in B'ham! That was a great time! The best U2 CD is War. Trust me I'm old enough to know - that was right when U2 was on the cusp of something big. And the newer U218 is great b/c it has "The Saints are Coming" which they played when the Superdome reopened and Autumn and I love to sing/shout that one!
